A scene or play of light captures my interest. I commit to paint it en plein air or back in my studio. Before I know it, all sense of time and place stands still as I am no longer painting the scene, but simply determining color, shapes, how dark, or how light. Painting is a meditation for me. I come back when chatting joggers run past, a pick-up truck drives by in a cloud of dust, or the dog stretches in the next room.

A great deal of inspiration has come from Vermont landscapes. While growing up and continuing to live in Waltham, MA, I am fortunate to spend a great deal of time in northern Vermont where both of my grandfathers were dairy farmers. I still get to spend much of my summer on a farm! And even when not painting Vermont, I lean towards pastoral settings. My work has been described as serene and lyrical. Many of the rural scenes are quickly disappearing even in my own lifetime.
